UP: Sunday shutdown, up to ₹10,00 fine for mask violations

Amid a spike in Covid-19 cases, the UP government has announced a Sunday shutdown in the state. Only essential services and activities will be allowed and the shutdown will be a weekly feature, the govt said.

CM Yogi Adityanath has ordered a strict crackdown on those not wearing masks. People caught without a mask will be fined ₹ 1,000 the first time and ₹ 10,000 for the second violation, the CM has ordered.

Uttar Pradesh reported 104 deaths and 22,439 fresh cases on Thursday.
