A civil court in Uttar Pradesh’s Mathura on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking removal of the Shahi Idgah Masjid on grounds that it was built over Krishna Janmabhoomi land. The court declined to entertain the plea citing the bar on admitting such cases under the Places of Worship Act, 1991. The civil suit moved by Hindu deity, Shri Krishna Virajman, through next friends, had sought the removal of encroachments and the mosque. Among other submissions, the plaintiff had contended that temples on the Mathura land were demolished by Mughal ruler Aurangzeb and that the ‘Janambhoomi Trust’ had failed to perform its duty to secure, preserve and protect the Trust property. The plaintiff has now decided to move the Allahabad High Court.
