Manish Sisodia sent to 14-day judicial custody in Excise policy case

A Delhi court on Wednesday sent former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to 14-day judicial custody in a money laundering case arising out of the excise policy matter.
Special Judge M K Nagpal sent the senior AAP leader to jail till April 5 after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) produced him on conclusion of his custodial interrogation in the matter.
The anti-money laundering probe agency has so far quizzed Sisodia for seven days in its custody in the matter.
On Tuesday, the special court deferred the hearing to March 25 on the bail plea of Sisodia in the main case being probed by the CBI.
The CBI on February 26 arrested Sisodia in connection with alleged corruption in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.
The ED arrested Sisodia on March 9 in Tihar jail, where he was lodged in connection with the case being probed by the CBI.

India has recorded 1,134 new coronavirus cases, while the active cases increased to 7,026, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Wednesday.
The death toll climbed to 5,30,813 with five deaths. One death each has been reported by Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Gujarat and Maharashtra while one fatality was reconciled by Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.
The daily positivity was recorded at 1.09 per cent while the weekly positivity was pegged at 0.98 per cent.

"Eleven people have suffered injuries. They are being treated at the JLN government hospital and are out of danger," the official added.

Eleven people were injured when a ride collapsed at a fair in Rajasthan's Ajmer district on Tuesday, officials said.
The victims were riding a carousel when it suddenly plummeted while on its downward journey.
In a video of the incident, people could be heard screaming as the carousel crashed.
A woman could also be heard saying "This is dangerous" in the video while the ride was on its way down. It crashed moments later.
A police official said the incident occurred due to a break in a cable.

Bilkis Bano has challenged the remission of sentence and subsequent release of 11 convicts in the gangrape and murder case.

The Supreme Court said on 22 March 2023 that it would constitute a special bench to hear the petition filed by Bilkis Bano, who was gangraped and whose family was murdered during the 2002 Gujarat riots.
Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said that he will look into constituting the bench later in the day.
Bilkis Bano has challenged the remission of sentence and subsequent release of 11 convicts in the gangrape and murder case. Besides the plea challenging the release of the convicts, the gang-rape survivor had also filed a separate petition seeking a review of the apex court's May 13, 2022 order on a plea by a convict.
Seven members of Bilkis Bano's family were also killed during the 2002 Gujarat riots.
In its May 13, 2022 order, the apex court had asked the state government to consider the plea of a convict for premature release in terms of its policy of July 9, 1992 which was applicable on the date of conviction and decide it within a period of two months.

All 11 convicts were granted remission by the Gujarat government and released on August 15, last year.

Doctors were performing a Caesarean section procedure at the Sub District Hospital, Bijbehara when the tremors hit. First equipment started shaking, and then a power cut plunged the room into darkness, with only slight illumination from the machines.
In a video shared by the Anantnag health department, the medical staff are heard praying while continuing the procedure. One is heard saying, "Keep the baby safe."
Eventually, the lights come back on, and a medic says, "You are fine."

Delhi Budget: AAP govt allocates Rs 16,575 crore for education

In the 2022-23 Delhi Budget, the education sector had received the highest allocation of Rs 16,278 crore.

The Delhi government will provide new tablets to all teachers, principals, vice-principals besides setting up new computers in 350 schools in the national capital in 2023-24.
The Delhi Budget presented by Finance Minister Kailash Gahlot on Wednesday allocated Rs 16,575 crore for the education department for the year 2023-24.
In the 2022-23 Delhi Budget, the education sector had received the highest allocation of Rs 16,278 crore.
Providing 20 new computers to each of the 350 schools under the Delhi Government and teaching of French, German, Japanese and Spanish in Schools of Specialised Excellence are the highlights of the Delhi's budget for education sector.
The minister said more branches of the Ambedkar Schools of Specialised Education will come up in 2023. In 2021, there were 20 schools of specialised education, which will be increased to 37 in 2023.
Gahlot also announced that schools and industries will collaborate to develop professional skills for children at Schools of Applied Learning.&nbsp;

The radical preacher is on the run after police launched a major crackdown against his organisation and arrested a number of his aides.
