The Centre on Friday confirmed NSSO's leaked January data that reported the unemployment rate in India was 6.1% in 2017-18, the highest in 45 years. This comes on a day the Prime Minister Narendra Modi took charge. The data released showed that 7.8% of all the employable urban youth were jobless while the number for the rural employable youth stood at 5.3%.
