A woman who managed to sneak out of the Delhi airport after testing positive for Covid last week on returning from the UK has turned out to be infected by the super infectious UK strain.
The 47-year-old, who returned from the UK on December 21, had reached Andhra Pradesh by train before she could be traced on December 24. The episode triggered a contact tracing nightmare for authorities. The state officials have said that for now she is the only in Andhra infected with the mutant strain. Her son, wo had travelled with her from Delhi to Andhra, has tested negative. Reports of the woman's escape amid high alert in view of the virulent strain had fanned fears of its mass spread.
Till now, as per the Health Ministry, the total number of Indians with the UK coronavirus variant has touched six - three in Bengaluru, two in Hyderabad, and one in Pune.
