The UK government has introduced mandatory hotel quarantine on returnees from 33 countries on a 'high-risk' list to control the spread of new coronavirus variants.
The 10-day self-isolation rule applies to all UK citizens and permanent residents returning from South America, southern Africa, Portugal and other places where the South African Covid-19 variant has been found. The list does not include India.
The stay will cost travellers £1,750 or Rs. 1.8 lakhs approximately. Failure of complying with the quarantine rule will invite fines of up to £10,000.
