UK horticulture industry faces 'plant crisis' amid lockdown

Apr 02, 2020 19:43 IST

With spring sunshine and flowers in full bloom, all that's missing from UK's famous gardens are customers. Horticultural centres closed before 23 March, when all but essential shops were shut down to contain the spread of the coronavirus. An estimated 200 million British pounds of seasonal plants may have to be scrapped across the industry, during what's meant to be the industry's most profitable time of the year. The value of lost plant sales could rise to 687 million British pounds by the end of June.
