Two men convicted in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder have moved a Delhi court seeking a stay on the execution of the death warrants scheduled for March 3. Akshay Thakur in his appeal has stated that he has moved a fresh mercy petition before the president and therefore the execution can’t be carried out. Following which the Delhi court has directed Tihar Jail authorities to respond by Monday on Akshay Thakur's plea. Meanwhile convict Pawan Kumar Gupta has also has moved the Delhi court seeking a stay on execution, saying his curative petition pending in the Supreme Court. Gupta had filed a curative petition on Friday pleading that his death sentence be commuted to life imprisonment.
