A Telangana-based software development firm has launched a ‘swadeshi’ microblogging platform ‘Tooter’ that has the similar sounding name and interface as Twitter. Users can 'Like', 'Comment', 'Repost', and 'Quote' a particular Toot (Post), which can contain text, images, videos etc. Tooter’s verified profiles are marked by a blue tick, just like Twitter, and features personalities like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Amit Shah and Virat Kohli. In its Terms of Service page, Tooter stresses that the platform has been created for ‘free speech’.
