Trump-touted anti-malarial drug linked to higher death risk: study

Popularised due to US President Donald Trump's support, anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine has been linked to an increased risk of death in hospitalized Covid-19 patients in a new study. The study involving over 96,000 people virus patients in hospitals found that those treated with HCQ or the related chloroquine had a higher risk of death and heart rhythm problems than patients who were not given the medicines. Published in the Lancet medical journal, the research found no positive benefit for coronavirus from the infamous drug.
