The Karnataka government on Saturday decided that a lockdown will be imposed across the state on all Sundays starting July 5 in an effort to arrest the growing spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. While the hours of night curfew have been changed to 8pm to 5am effective immediately, government offices will work for five days a week starting July 10. No activities will be permitted on these days except essential services and supplies, said a statement from the Chief Minister's Office. The decisions came as Karnataka reported 918 new coronavirus cases and 11 fatalities in 24 hours, taking the state's tally to 4,441 and the death toll to 191. This is the highest single-day spike in Karnataka so far.
