Afghanistan's top official in negotiations with the Taliban arrived in Pakistan's capital Islamabad Monday on a three-day trip. During his stay, Abdullah Abdullah, who leads the Afghan High Council for National Reconciliation, will meet Pakistan’s prime minister Imran Khan, President Arif Alvi, and Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi. The High Council represents the Afghan government in historic peace negotiations with the Taliban which began in Qatar on September 12. Pakistan's Foreign Ministry released a statement saying Abdullah's visit 'will provide an opportunity for wide-ranging exchange of views on the Afghan peace process and strengthen Pakistan-Afghanistan bilateral relations.'
