Tokyo Olympics 2020: Will Amit Panghal clinch gold for India on his maiden Olympic trip?

While this will be Amit Panghal’s maiden Olympics, the young athlete is being considered as India’s big medal prospect at the Tokyo Games.    

The 25-year old Haryana-based boxer first made a cut in 2017. He won Gold in his debut appearance at the National Boxing Championship and bagged a bronze medal in the same year at the Asian Amateur Boxing Championship.

He rose to fame in 2018, when he brought home the Commonwealth Silver medal and a Gold at the Asian Games. In 2019, the boxing sensation also triumphed at the Asian Boxing Championship. Panghal also achieved a distinguished feat for his country in the year 2019, when he became the first Indian boxer to win the silver medal at the 2019 AIBA World Boxing Championship.

With 9 boxers, India will be sending its largest boxing contingent ever at the Summer Games and leading the pack will be Amit Panghal who is aiming to settle for nothing less than Gold.
