Despite multiple appeals amid a national shutdown, thousands gathered at Ghazipur near Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border in an attempt to return to their villages. They all had left their homes for a better livelihood working in Delhi as construction labourers, factory workers, vegetable vendors, rickshaw pullers and a myriad other jobs. Despite Delhi govt's promise to feed them due to loss of livelihood, people seemed desperate to return to their villages even if it meant walking the entire way home. With no other solution in sight, the UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has now ordered 1000 buses to ferry them to their respective hometowns. Transportation Officers, bus drivers and conductors were called on Friday night to make all the arrangements.
