This project tells stories of refugees through suitcases

Feb 09, 2020 04:27 IST

Architect and sculpture artist Mohamad Hafez came together with writer Ahmed Badr to translate stories of refugee families living in America into emotive multi-media installations. The exhibit is called 'Unpacked: Refugee Package,' where ten suitcases, nine wall pieces, and one big installation show reconstructions of rooms, homes, buildings and landscapes that have suffered the ravages of war. Apart from the physical installations, viewers of the exhibit can listen to audio recordings and text from the refugees themselves. The project seeks to humanize the word “refugee” and is on display at the University of Madison-Wisconsin till March 2020.
