NATIONAL MANGO DAY 2021: In India, mangoes are not just a fruit but a delicacy known for their juicy flesh and sweet aroma. From mango milkshakes, mango salads, mango kulfi to mango chutneys and pickles, it is enjoyed in various forms and as a part of several recipes.

The first known cultivation of mangoes was in India around 5000 years ago. Now India is one of the largest producers of mangoes, offering several kinds and varieties to the world. Each variety has its own distinct flavour, size and texture.

This mango day on 22nd July, celebrate with some of the famous varieties found in India.

Kesar

Kesar or also know as Gir Kesar is one of the most sought-after varieties. Majorly grown in Gujarat, it was first cultivated by the Nawabs of Junagarh. It is famous for its juicy and bright orange pulp.

Chausa

Chausa is known to have been introduced by Sher Shah Suri. Named after a city in Bihar, it is quite popular in North India. It is relished for its sweet taste and yellow skin.

Langra

Langra is that variety of mango which is known to have originated in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. It has a sweet aroma and the skin of the mango remains greenish even when it is ripe.

Banginapalli

Banginapalli is largely produced in the Banganapalle of Kurnool District in Andhra Pradesh. It has an oval shape, thin yellow skin and a sweet aroma.

The list doesn’t end here as there are hundreds of different varieties available in India. Irrespective of the variety, don't forget to bite into the juicy and sweet flesh of mangoes this Mango Day!
