A major contributor to the air pollution crisis in India is the construction industry. A Mumbai-based design start-up is making construction more sustainable by converting black carbon extracted from polluted air and upcycling it to make unique building tiles. These handcrafted tiles are being made in partnership with a Boston-based start-up that captures carbon soot to convert it into paint and ink. Every tile manufactured using a hydraulic press, helps clean 30,000 litres of air! Crafts people from Gujarat and Tamil Nadu then make beautiful patterns on these tiles.
