These virtual shopping apps will quench your thirst for retail therapy

Apr 08, 2021 20:29 IST | By Editorji News Desk

It seems like the stay-at-home orders are here to stay for just a little bit longer. There are many things that the pandemic has stolen from our lives and shopping in our favourite stores is definitely one of them. If you’re sick of being cooped up at home or just miss your old retail therapy sessions, we have a comforting list of alternative shopping options for you!

Even before the pandemic took hold, fashion and beauty brands had begun to embrace technology and immersive retail experiences to improve your online store trips.

British retailer Asos launched an online tool called ‘See My Fit’ in January 2020 that allowed people to see how a certain outfit would look on different body types. While you couldn't actually try on each Asos dress, the tool promised to make the experience more inclusive for the different kinds of shoppers.

Similarly, make-up brands have been trying to nail personalised virtual technologies for a long time. From Maybelline and MAC to L’Oreal, virtual try-on apps for makeup are a great way to test out products without actually going to the store. All you have to do is head to your favourite brand’s website and let the technology map your facial features in real-time.

While there are fewer virtual options for sneakerheads, Wanna Kicks is a fantastic app for a virtual trying-on experience. The app features shoes from all the major brands including Nike, Adidas, Reebok and even some covetable high-fashion names like Gucci. Even if you can’t afford the actual sneakers, you can try them on through this app for free!

If you miss the experience of just walking around the store, Indian high-end designer Manish Malhotra opened the country’s first virtual couture store in January 2021. You can now swipe through the aisles, zoom in on the products, and get details of the item, all from the comfort of your homes.

If you especially miss your window shopping trips, a modern dress up game will be right up your alley! Created by a former magazine editor, Drest lets you digitally create avatars based on actual models in luxury fashion looks from the world’s biggest brands. From Prada to Versace, there are clothes from over 200 labels on this iOS app for you to play around with!

While the virtual try-ons may not be perfect yet, these options offer a very exciting window into the future of fashion!
