The mystery behind the hidden message in Norwegian painter Edvard Munch's famous painting "The Scream", has been solved.
For decades, a tiny message on the top left-hand of the painting that read 'can only have been painted by a madman', has been the subject of debates and discussions. Many also believe that it is an act of vandalism by a viewer.
Now, after extensive research, the National Museum of Norway has revealed that the message was written by Munch himself. Reports reveal that Munch likely added the inscription in 1895, as a response to judgement on his work.
