It was a day to remember for New Zealand's Tim Southee, both with bat and the ball. Kiwis had a disastrous start on 1st Day of the Christchurch Test, as Suranga Lakmal ran through their top order to reduce the hosts to 64/6. Then began the great Kiwi fightback. Tim Southee with a 65 ball 68 put up a 108 run 7th wicket stand with BJ Watling. New Zealand though were bowled out for 178. It was once again Southee who removed Sri Lanka's top 3 quickly to become New Zealand's 3rd highest Test wicket taker. Sri Lanka ended day 1 at 88/4.
