The Covid-19 pandemic may force the curtains to close on Shakespeare's iconic Globe Theater in London, where many of his creations were staged and now serves as an attraction for tourists across the world. The playhouse, which largely relies on ticket sales, appealed to its patrons and to theatre lovers for support, since all of Britain's theatres have been shut since March due to the pandemic. This replica of the original Elizabethan structure was built in 1997 on the banks on the River Thames. The Globe's artistic director stated that it is not eligible to receive funding from Arts Council. The chair of the UK's digital, culture, media and sport committee warned that losing the 'national treasure' would be a tragedy.
