Problem-solving-based counselling for children could be an affordable way to reduce stress-inducing troubles faced by school-going students in India, finds a new study, Published in the journal Lancet Child & Adolescent Health, findings reveal that a 3-week problem school program could be an effective first-line mental health intervention for young people in the country. Participants in the study aged 12-20 were delivered by school counsellors with no prior mental health training and centred on a well-established problem-solving approach. Students who took part in counselling, reported significant reductions in their main problems and associated stress levels, compared to the control group, who received only the booklets.
