Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and former chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu was on Monday detained by Renigunta police at Tirupati airport in Renigunta while he was going to Chittoor district election campaign. The police reportedly cited discrepancies in the permissions which Naidu got from the Election Commission for the campaign. Police also claimed that the risk of contracting Covid-19 during the protest programme was very high due to the resurgence of the novel coronavirus. Chandrababu Naidu sat down in protest at Tirupati airport as he slammed the acts of the police force in detaining him as well as several party functionaries and activists across the district.
