Kai Po Che!
Kai Po Che! Sushant Singh Rajput's debut film in 2013 helped him burst on to the scene as a young actor trying to refine his craft. He played Ishan, a young failed cricketer who kept his romance with the game alive by coaching a young kid. The film was hit and so was SSR with the critics.
MS Dhoni: The Untold Story
The 2nd film on the list also revolves around cricket where Sushant played the role of a lifetime. The subject was India’s World Cup-winning captain and Sushant mastered the craft of walking, talking & batting like MS Dhoni. The film was a superhit and Sushant helped millions of Indians relieve the iconic 2011 World Cup triumph.
Detective Byomkesh Bakshy
Number 3 on this list is a period drama which got Sushant a lot of critical acclaim. Playing the iconic fictional character Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, Sushant in just his 3rd film blossomed as an actor. Set in the 1940s, Sushant aced the period drama under the watchful eyes of director Dibankar Banerjee. The film bombed at the box office but was critics rated it highly.
Chhichhore
At number 4 on the list was Sushant Singh Rajput’s college comedy-drama titled Chhichhore. The 2019 film was by far one of the highest-grossing films of Sushant where he played the role of a college student and then a father who dealt with the tough subject of suicide. The film worked well in the theatres as well as OTT platforms as Sushant perfectly explored the genre of comedy in this film.
Sonchiriya
The 5th and the final film in this countdown is 2019 action drama Sonchriya. Despite the presence of industry stalwarts like Manoj Bajpayee, Ranvir Shorey & Ashutosh Rana, Sushant aced the character of Lakhan Singh, a dreaded dacoit in the ravines of the Chambal valley. While it got the critic’s attention, the film failed at the box office.
There are some good films which couldn’t make it to the list like Kedarnath, Rabta & Shuddh Desi Romance. Sushant’s upcoming film in the works was Mukesh Chabra’s desi version of ‘The Fault in our Stars’ titled Dil Bechara whose release was postponed due to the global pandemic.
