In an incident almost as though from a movie, a man in MP faked his death to evade arrest. The police nabbed a 34-year-old man, nine months after he faked his death after allegedly stealing Rs 6.65 lakh cash of a trader in Madhya Pradesh's Chhatarpur district.
The family of the accused had also performed the last rites of an unidentified body, claiming to be him, but the DNA of the deceased did not match with the man's family members, which revealed the truth.
On July 16 last year, trader Sudhir Agrawal had complained at Bamitha police station that a pick-up vehicle's driver, Sunil Namdeo, delivered some iron rods sent by him at a place in Rajnagar town, collected Rs 6.65 lakh cash from there and then went missing.
On July 24, 2021, an unidentified body was found in Kodahar area under Bamitha police station limits. Namdeo's family members then identified the body as his and even performed the last rites and other post-death rituals.
But, later the DNA test report said the deceased's sample did not match with Namdeo's family members, he said.
While a probe into the case was on, trader Agrawal, while on way to Bageshwar Dham temple, spotted Namdeo on May 3 this year near Gadha Tigadda in MP.
When Agrawal asked for his money, Namdeo allegedly threatened the businessman with dire consequences and told the latter that he was already dead in police records, the official said.
Agrawal subsequently approached the police and lodged a complaint, based on which the police formed a team and arrested Namdeo from Gadha Tigadda area last week, the official said.
The police also seized Rs five lakh from Namdeo's possession, he said.
A case has been registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, he added.

The All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen chief said that the structure at Gyanvapi was a fountain, not a shivling. Owaisi said, "'Baba' has not been found. Regarding the claim that a shivling has been found, the mosque committee has said that it is a fountain. Every mosque has such a fountain. The other important point is that the court-appointed commissioner did not approach the court. The petitioners' lawyer rushed to court and the judge issued an order. If there was a shivling, then the court-appointed commissioner should have said it."
The AIMIM chief also questioned the validity of the court order to seal the 'wuzu' pond where the alleged shivling was found. He said, "The court's order to seal the mosque area is in violation of the 1991 Act passed by Parliament. Read paragraph 83 of the Supreme Court's verdict in Babri Masjid-Ram Janmabhoomi title suit. SC said that the 1991 Act is part of the Constitution's basic structure."
In response, Keshav Prasad Maurya, deputy chief minister of UP, said, "When Congress was in power, it used to bring laws which exacerbate such issues. At that time, the Ram Janmabhoomi campaign was taking place. (The 1991 Act was implemented) to prevent similar campaigns elsewhere. A shivling has not emerged there because of a campaign. A court was hearing a case, and upon its orders, a survey was done. According to the survey report, Baba Vishwanath has been found there. We are all celebrating. Statements by the Muslim side, or other politicians who practice appeasement, should stop. The situation in UP is very good."
The official report of the court-mandated survey of the mosque was not known by May 16. The claim that a shivling has been found was made by one of the petitioners.
A Varanasi court is currently hearing petitions filed by some Hindu women seeking permission to pray regularly at the Shringar Gauri shrine situated at one of the walls of the masjid.

Sticky bombs refer to explosives usually used on vehicles. Explosives packed into small box, and a magnet and a mobile phone are attached to box. When the attacker dials phone number programmed into the mobile, the explosives are triggered and a blast occurs.
Such bombs are usually stuck on the underside of vehicles. They were widely used by Taliban fighters in Afghanistan. Subsequently, sticky bombs were also adopted by ISIS-Khorasan against Taliban in the war-torn country.
The latest development comes amid the Indian Army's warning that weapons from Afghanistan were trickling into Kashmir. India has been fearing Taliban's interference in Kashmir ever since the extremist organisation snatched power in Afghanistan in 2021.
Meanwhile, a little-known terror group called the Jammu Kashmir Freedom Fighters, has claimed responsibility for the attack. However, authorities are yet to officially reveal findings of the investigation.

It is said that actions have consequences. A group of thieves stole 16 idols worth several crores from a temple in Uttar Pradesh's Chitrakoot but the consequences of their actions supposedly visited them in their sleep as nightmares forcing them to return the loot. 
According to the police, 16 'ashtadhatu' idols or idols made out of 8 metals worth crores were stolen from an ancient Balaji temple on the night of May 9 and the priest had lodged an FIR against unknown people. 
On Sunday night, 14 out of the 16 idols were found near the residence of the temple priest, according to police.
The priest also found a letter with the sack in which the thieves had written that they were having scary dreams at night and they are returning the idols due to fear.

While one teacher teaches Hindi using one half of the blackboard, another teacher simultaneously teaches Urdu. The classroom houses students of classes 1 to 5.
One of the teachers claimed that there are not enough classrooms in the school. To make matters worse, an Urdu primary school was relocated to the premises by the education department in 2017, according to the staff.
Kumari Priyanka, an assistant teacher, said, "In 2017, Urdu Primary School was relocated here. Our school has a shortage of classrooms. But that school has also been provided space, because it was an order. They have been given a room. In the same room, classes 1 to 5 are taught. There are 3 teachers. They divide the blackboard into 2 parts to teach."
She added, "It causes a lot of problems for students. They find it difficult to study and understand. Lack of adequate space for so many children also leads to high rate of absence of students."
Kameshwar PD Gupta, the district education officer, said, "We'll conduct an investigation. We'll have to see why this is happening. We might provide another room."

In a shocking incident, a Class 7 student was beaten to death, allegedly by his seniors, at a boarding school in Dehradun. School authorities, in a bid to cover up the incident, buried the boy's body instead of reporting the crime according to police. The body was dug up on Tuesday and sent for a post-mortem. Five people, including 2 students have been arrested and charged for murder.

Hojai and Cachar are the worst-hit districts so far. Over 48,000 people had been relocated to over 200 relief camps by May 18.
The state government has promised Rs 4 lakh compensation to family members of the casualties.
Other northeastern states like Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh have also been adversely hit by heavy rains. At least 3 deaths have been reported from other states in the region.

Some of the girls were dressed in what appeared to be school uniform, while others wore casual clothes. In the undated video, girls are seen pulling each others' hair, hitting each other with sticks, and even try to throw each other down a flight of stairs.
Eventually, some people intervene. They appear to be school-going boys as they are also dressed in uniform. The cause of the fight was not immediately known.

In a fresh terror attack on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir, a liquor shop was targeted in Baramulla. Terrorists hurled a grenade at the newly-opened liquor store, killing one person and injuring 3 others.
The attack occurred in a high-profile area housing offices of many police officials, as well as Army and CRPF camps, as per reports. The grenade was reportedly thrown in via the opening used to hand over liquor bottles to customers.
All the victims were employees at the shop. They were identified as Ranjit Singh, Goverdhan Singh, Govind Singh, and Ravi Kumar. They were rushed to a hospital where one succumbed to his injuries.
Heavy deployment of security personnel was seen in the area following the attack.
Kavinder Gupta, BJP leader and former Deputy CM of J&amp;K, said, "The terror outfit called Jammu &amp; Kashmir Freedom Fighters attacked a liquor store in Baramulla. A person named Ranjit Singh, hailing from Rajouri was killed. 3 people were injured. Constantly targeting minorities is intolerable. Security forces will find the attackers. This is a serious issue in view of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, and also the ongoing tourist season. Security forces are doing good work. Many terrorists have been neutralised. But equipment like CCTVs need to be installed so that such criminals are more easily found."
