A special tea plucking and manufacturing activity followed by an auction has been planned by the Tea Board in India to commemorate the first official International Tea Day on May 21. Manufacturers will pluck the highest quality of green tea leaves and manufacture it for an auction to be held in June in centers across the country. A percentage of the proceeds will be sent for Covid-19 relief. The event will be open to both bought leaf factories and estates. United Nations General Assembly has designated the 21st of May as International Tea Day, based on a proposal put forth by the government of India in October 2015, as it is the season when quality tea manufacturing takes place. Previously, it was commemorated on December 15, but was not officially recognised.
