Sonu Sood turns 48: how a villain on reel turned a hero for real in Covid-19 pandemic

On Sonu Sood's 48th birthday, a look at how the reel life 'villain' turned 'messiah for migrants' as Covid-19 pandemic wreaked havoc

Sonu Sood, an actor who acts predominantly in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada and Punjabi films and a producer with close to 70 movies in his arsenal has entertained us with his commendable work for more than two decades. Sonu Sood who made his Bollywood debut in 2002 with 'Shaheed-E-Azam' as Bhagat Singh, earned recognition in the industry as Abhishek Bachchan's brother in Mani Ratnam's 'Yuva' in 2004 and then in 2005's 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne'.

In 2010, Sood played the lead antagonist in Salman Khan starrer 'Dabangg' which bagged him the Apsara Award for Best Actor in a Negative Role and the IIFA Award for Best Performance. Sonu Sood who is reportedly worth $17 million, established his own production house in July 2016 'Shakti Sagar Productions', which is named after his father, Shakti Sagar Sood

Sonu Sood is a superhero beyond the silver screen who is fearlessly marching against the coronavirus to save his fellow Indians. When India went into a 21-day, nation-wide lockdown on March 24, migrant workers faced the biggest crisis of their lives. These labourers, who were stranded hundreds of kilometers away from their home, started the journey to their hometown on foot, sans water and food. That was when the reel-life antagonist and a real-life hero, Sonu Sood came to their rescue.

Being described as a messiah for helping migrants reach their homes, actor Sonu Sood has selflessly arranged for buses and modes of transport for those in need and has till now reportedly helped more than 90,000 migrant workers in the states of Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, and Jharkhand.

After providing buses for migrant workers, Sonu Sood also helped airlift 177 girls from Odisha who worked as embroidery labourers at a local textile factory and were stranded in Kerala due to Covid-19 lockdown. Few days after this, Sonu Sood on June 5th arranged a special aircraft to help 180 migrants stuck in Mumbai comprising patients, pregnant women & elderly people.

The 'Dabangg' actor has also donated PPE kits to Corona warriors and offered his family-owned Shakti Sagar Hotel in Mumbai, to give shelter to paramedical staff and doctors.

Sood has pledged to provide financial assistance to over 400 families of deceased and injured migrant workers hit by the coronavirus and said that 'he feels it's his personal responsibility to support them & secure their future'.

Sonu Sood who has been in the limelight for his good deeds, has now donned a hat of an author too. The actor is all set to come up with a book recounting his experiences of helping migrant workers amid the coronavirus pandemic. The book, which remains untitled, will chronicle Sood’s migrant worker's rescue missions, the experiences and the stories which, the actor says, are 'embedded in his soul forever'.

Well, the latest Internet sensation Sonu Sood who started an initiative 'Ghar Bhejo' in March this year, still continues to help migrants even when the lockdown in some states has been eased.

The actor says
'he wants to work till the last migrant reaches his home.'
