Union Minister Babul Supriyo faced severe flak after he tweeted a sexist dig at Trinamool Congress’ election campaign slogan 'Bangla Nijer Meyekei Chay' or ‘Bengal wants its own daughter’.
The BJP leader posted a targeted meme first shared by BJP’s Asansol unit- ‘I am the daughter of Bengal’ written next to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, along with Home Minister Amit Shah and the words ‘a daughter is someone else's wealth, this time we will send her off’.
In the tweet Supriyo added that his party will ‘surely send her off this time’. The BJP leader deleted his tweet, but his views garnered criticism from TMC supporters.
Minister of State for Women and Child Development Dr Shashi Panja expressed concern over public representatives endorsing chauvinist views. She also said that she was shocked to see how deep and wide sexism runs in BJP leaders.
