Shooters urge PM Modi to intervene over absence of shooting from CWG

Aug 01, 2019 10:24 IST

Shooter Joydeep Karmakar in an interview to IANS said that a strong protest from the entire sports fraternity was needed, with even Prime Minister Narendra Modi intervening, to make sure that a decision like dropping shooting from an event as big as the Commonwealth Games is not made in the future. The Indian Olympic Association has pulled out of the Commonwealth Games Federation's General Assembly in September, to protest the dropping of shooting from the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games roster. The decision didn't go down well with the shooters as India has done well in this discipline. 16 of India's 66 medals at the 2018 CWG came in shooting.
