Former Formula One driver and 4-time Paralympic gold medallist Alex Zanardi has had a second operation after he suffered a severe head injury in a handcycle accident on 19th June. As per the health officials, the 53-year-old Italian's condition remains serious as he is still admitted in the intensive care unit. Zanardi is a global sporting icon and is known for his determination and will. His accident in 2001 while racing in a car event cost him both his legs but that did not deter him and after an extensive rehabilitation of 4 years, in 2005 Zanardi returned to racing for BMW and thereafter he won 4 races. He then switched to hand-cycling and won 12 world championships and four Paralympic gold medals.
