The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected a PIL filed by retired bureaucrats alleging gross mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic by the government. The petition alleged that the Centre failed to undertake timely and effective measures to contain the virus and demanded an independent inquiry by a commission. Advocate Prashant Bhushan pointed out that despite MHA issuing an advisory on February 4, the international passengers were not screened until March 4. Bhushan also added that advisories were ignored during the "Namaste Trump" event as well . The bench after hearing the arguments said that it is a matter for public debate and the court is not ‘inclined to interfere’. It also added that these are matters for the Government to look into it.
