The Supreme Court dismissed the plea Nirbhaya rapist Pawan Kumar Gupta, saying that he was not a juvenile at the time of the crime. The court said the convict had submitted no new documents to show otherwise. One of the four convicts facing the gallows in the Nirbhaya gang-rape and murder case, Pawan had claimed that he was a minor in December 2012. Pawan, currently in Tihar jail, had approached the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, alleging that his ossification test was not conducted by investigating officers and claimed benefit under the Juvenile Justice Act. His lawyer had claimed that Gupta's school records determine his date of birth to be October 8, 1996, but the Delhi High Court had ignored this point. The top court dismissed his plea against the death sentence and all four Nirbhaya rapists will be hanged on the 1st of February.
