Reports: pre-installed malware found on Chinese Transsion smartphones

Aug 26, 2020 13:33 IST

According to reports, pre-installed malware has been discovered on thousands of low cost smartphones from Chinese phone maker Transsion. Anti-fraud platform Secure-D reportedly made the discovery, and while recording transactions originating from Transsion Tecno W3 handsets, found that the Triada malware was signing up mobile users for subscription services without their permission. Secure-D says over 19 million suspicious transactions that were recorded and blocked, were initiated by a family of apps called com.mufc. Reports say its possible Transsion may not be to blame, with Google's security team saying Triada was likely installed by a malicious supplier somewhere within the supply chain.
