Antigua and Barbuda has cancelled the citizenship of Mehul Choksi, who along with Nirav Modi is involved in the 13,578 Rs PNB fraud, the Hindustan Times has reported quoting CBI officers. Antigua cancelled Choksi's citizenship sometime last year after which he has approached a civil court in St. Johns', the officer told HT, and added that he will likely lose his appeal. Choksi is fighting the Antiguan govt on a well-established investment scheme, which he misused to take refuge in the island nation after cheating Indian banks, the report quoted the officer as saying. The report further mentioned that after Choksi's appeal against revocation is exhausted, his extradition proceedings will begin. However, his lawyer Vijay Aggarwal refuted the media reports, saying that his client Mehul Choksi is very much an Antiguan citizen. Choksi who flew to Antigua in January 2018 was granted citizenship under the Caribbean nation's Citizenship by Investment Programme in November 2017.
