Report: Indians spend one-third of their waking hours on smartphones

Jan 03, 2020 15:37 IST

According to a survey by Vivo and Cybermedia Research (CMR), the average Indian spends more than 1,800 hours on their smartphone in a year. The survey, involving 2,000 participants across eight Indian cities, also found that 30% fewer people were meeting their families and loved ones multiple times a month as compared to 10 years ago. Meanwhile, three in four people admitted that the current smartphone usage is likely to affect their mental health. According to an ASSOCHAM report, the number of smartphone users in India is likely to rise to 859 million by 2022 from 468 million in 2017.
