Report: India bans popular file-sharing site WeTransfer

May 30, 2020 18:07 IST

According to reports, the Department of Telecommunications has banned popular file-sharing site WeTransfer.com citing public interest and national security. Indian daily Mumbai Mirror said that the department issued a notice to internet service providers (ISPs) across India to ban two specific pages of the website and then the entire website URL. At the time of making this video, though, the service was still accessible via some networks, including Airtel and ACT Fibernet, but not available through a Jio connection. The Netherlands-based independent file sharing service allows users to upload and share files up to 2GB in size for free--a feature that’s quite useful for most people who are working from home during the Covid-19 pandemic.
