India on Wednesday recorded the highest one-day spike of Covid-19 cases at over 1.26 lakh. In the last four days, India has recorded over a lakh cases on three days. The country also logged 685 deaths due to the virus in a single day. The total number of active cases has also gone to over 9 lakh now, data released by the health ministry on Thursday morning showed.
The Union Health Ministry said that close to 30 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered in a span of 24 hours on April 6, taking the total doses given in the country so far to over 9 crore.

The United States led the global tally with 31.2 million cases. Deaths in India stood at 904, taking the total to 170,179, data showed.
The new wave, known to have increased transmissibility, has decreased the recovery rate of the country which currently stands at over 90 per cent.

According to the Ministry of Health, as on Friday morning, there are 1,18,46,652 confirmed coronavirus cases in India, of which 4,21,066 are active cases.

Over&nbsp;10.4 crore people have been vaccinated so far.&nbsp;
While 1,21,56,529 people have recovered, 1,70,179 deaths have been reported.&nbsp;
Among the states, Maharashtra has the most active cases, followed by Chhattisgarh&nbsp;and&nbsp;Karnataka.
&nbsp;

This is the second such PIL registered by the state high court on coronavirus situation.

The Gujarat High Court on Sunday initiated a suo motu PIL over the <a href="https://www.editorji.com/covid-19" target="_blank">coronavirus situation</a> after observing that media reports on the pandemic indicate that the state was heading towards a "health emergency of sorts".
Chief Justice Vikram Nath said that "news channels are flooded with the harrowing tales, unfortunate and unimaginable difficulties and unmanageable conditions of the infrastructure".
Nath, through an oral order, directed the high court registry to register a fresh suo motu PIL. This is the second such PIL registered by the state high court on coronavirus situation.

This accounts for 73.37% of the total available beds with ventilators. Apart from that, only 511 of the 1,852 ICU beds are available, which is 72.4% of total available beds without ventilators.
