US Senators write to PM on data storage rule

Oct 14, 2018 15:23 IST

Two US Senators, co-chairing the Senate's India caucus, have reached out to PM Modi, urging India to relax its data localisation norms. The letter to PM comes amid strained ties between Washington and New Delhi over the S-400 deal with Russia. Under RBI's current norms, all user payment data on domestic transactions in India have to be stored inside the country. The US feels rules represent 'key trade barriers' between the two nations.
