Indian women's hockey team captain Rani Rampal has become the first-ever hockey player to be awarded the prestigious World Games Athlete of the year award. The 25-year-old was awarded after 20 days of polling by sports fans around the world and Rani came out to be a clear winner with an impressive 1,99,477 votes. India won the FIH series last year and Rani was named the player of the tournament and under her captaincy, Indian women's team qualified for Olympic Games for the 3rd time in its history.
