The Punjab government has written to the Centre, asking for a ₹150 crores additional funds to combat the coronavirus crisis. In a letter written by the Punjab Health Minster to the Union Health Minister, the state minister claims that Punjab has the maximum number of NRIs and this month 90,000 have returned home. The state government now fears there is going to be a dramatic increase in the number of positive cases in the state. Punjab government claims the funds are required for additional manpower, specialists and facilities for testing and treatment. As of Tuesday, Punjab has reported 21 positive cases and one death.
