Free speech might be under the radar but can a one-man protest holding a smiley face be jailed? The answer is a yes. Jolovan Wham, a civil rights advocate and a social worker, was called 2 months after he posted a photo of himself, alone, holding a smiley drawn on a cardboard outside a police station. The Singapore Police said Jolovan has had several run-ins with authorities and this charge was related to Wham demonstrating his support for young climate activist in March. Wham took to twitter saying he had been charged for violating the Public Order act. #smileinsolidarity too started trending with people posting smiley faces in support of Wham saying "posing with a smiley is not a crime". Be careful of the next smiley face you draw!
