The government said on Saturday it was capping the price of liquid oxygen used to treat Covid-19 infected people as well as victims of other respiratory diseases. A statement released after complaints of hoarding and shortages surfaced, said manufacturers have hiked prices in the absence of a price cap on liquid medical oxygen. To ensure that the oxygen is available at reasonable rates, the government has capped manufacturers' prices at ₹ 15.22 per cubic metre (CUM), the statement said. Prices of a cubic metre of medical oxygen delivered by cylinder to end-users have been fixed at ₹ 25.71. The new ceiling prices will be applicable for six months and exclude taxes.
