The Union&nbsp;Cabinet on Wednesday approved President's rule in&nbsp;Puducherry. Lieutenant Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan had recommended President's rule after the&nbsp;BJP and its allies decided not&nbsp;to stake claim to form the govt after the collapse of the Congress in the union territory. The V Narayanasamy government lost power on Monday, just three months before the assembly election, after the Congress-DMK coalition fell short of the majority mark of 14 in the 26-member assembly after six resignations. Narayanasamy had accused the opposition BJP and NR Congress of bringing down his government.

The Defence Ministry has decided to airlift 23 mobile oxygen generating plants from Germany as several states reel under an acute shortage of medical oxygen due to a massive surge in coronavirus cases, officials said on Friday. Each plant will have a capacity to produce 40 litres of oxygen per minute and 2,400 litres every hour. The plants will be deployed in the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS) hospitals treating COVID-19 patients. The decision by the ministry came four days after Defence Minister Rajnath Singh granted emergency financial powers to the three services to make necessary procurement in view of the pandemic.
