Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday lit the first customary diya at the Raj Ghat in Varanasi to kick off the Dev Deepawali Mahotsav.
Nearly 15 lakh diyas were illuminated along the ghats of river Ganga on the occasion of Kartik Purnima.
To commemorate the auspicious evening, cultural programmes with classical dancers, laser light shows were also organised at 15 ghats of the holy Ganga river.
The PM also visited the site of the Kashi Vishwanath Temple Corridor project before reaching the ghat.
