Addressing the nation after meeting state CMs over the Covid-19 situation and the vaccination programmes in the country, PM Modi said, it was a matter of grave concern that people were taking the surge in coronavirus cases lightly.
"This is a matter of concern...especially the fact that people are taking this lightly. Even the administration in certain states have been lacking in their commitment, " said the Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister also added that India has crossed the limits of the first wave already, but a lockdown won't be needed now.
"Earlier we did not have the infrastructure to deal with the pandemic and we had to use lockdown as a tool...but today we do not need a lockdown", said the PM.
The Prime Minister stressed on isolating and testing of suspected patients, adding that states must ensure pro-active testing, and at least 30 contacts of a positive patient must be tested in 3 days.
"Our target should be to test at least 30 contacts in 72 hours per COVID positive patient. The borders of containment zones should be particular and not vague", said the PM.
