COVID-19 vaccines developed by Pfizer and Moderna reduced the risk of infection by 80 per cent two weeks or more after the first of two shots, data from a real-world study of vaccinated US healthcare personnel and first responders revealed. The study conducted on 3,950 people over a 13 week period further revealed that the risk of infection fell by 90% by 2 weeks after 2nd shot. Director Rochelle Walensky said that the study shows that the national vaccination efforts are working and added that the authorised mRNA covid-19 vaccines provided early, substantial real-world protection against infection.
