Here's another tale to add to the nation's Onion woes. Officials in Bihar were seen wearing helmets on Saturday, as they went to sell subsidised onions at the Bihar State Cooperative Marketing Union Limited counter. The officials allege that the move was for their safety as there have been instances of stampedes and stone pelting by those waiting in line for the vegetable. Onions were being sold at a subsidised rate of ₹35/kg, and many people flocked the counter in long queues. The price of the essential kitchen commodity has been touching the skies, going at ₹100/kg in many places.
