Paraplegic climbs Hong Kong skyscraper to raise funds for a cause

Jan 17, 2021 16:00 IST

Strapped in his wheelchair, paraplegic Lai Chi-wai climbed a skyscraper in Hong Kong to raise funds for spinal cord patients, becoming the first person in the region to do so, Reuters reported. Chi-wai climbed over 250 meters, in an attempt that took more than 10 hours, however he couldn't make it to the top of the tower. He helped raise HK$5.2 million ($670,639) in donations. Through the feat, Chi-wai wanted to spread the message that disability does not imply weakness.
