The pitch at the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium was proving tough to bat on as only 1 batsman managed a half-century from Indian and English camps combined. But it all changed the moment Rishabh Pant walked out to bat.
The Delhi lad tamed the 3 Lions with shots all over the ground and smashed his 3rd overall and 1st Test hundred on home soil with a six.
He was cautious to start with and brought up his half-century in 82 balls. But once Rohit Sharma fell, Pant cut loose and smashed next 50 runs in just 33 deliveries.
Interestingly, since his Test debut back in August 2018, no other batsman has notched up scores of over 90 more times than Pant.
Though he eventually got out on 101, but Pant is now the 2nd highest run-scorer in Tests in 2020, just behind Joe Root.
