The BJP looks on course to retain power in six municipal corporations in Gujarat, winning 451 of the total 575 seats, as per the latest counting data.
The BJP won Jamnagar, Bhavnagar, Rajkot and Surat. In Surat, the Aam Aadmi Party trumped Congress with 25 seats, as the grand old party failed to open its account. Polling for 576 seats in Ahmedabad and 5 other civic corporations was held on February 21. An average 46.1% voter turnout was recorded in the elections to six municipal corporations in Gujarat, officials said on Monday.
Prime Minister congratulated party workers on the impressive win in Gujarat. In a series of tweets, the PM said, the win across Gujarat is very special. He added that for a party that is serving in a state for over two decades to record such a phenomenal win is noteworthy. He went on to say that it is heartening to see widespread support from all sections of society, particularly the youth of Gujarat towards BJP. PM said, the results of municipal elections across Gujarat clearly show the unwavering faith people have towards politics of development and good governance.
The Aam Aadmi Party was also seen celebrating its win in the municipal polls by cutting a cake at the party's Ahmedabad office.
